The first day of this BBC broadcast, the camera was in and off with John Gandy. I was in the back then, looking over the sofa and saying 'Doctor, you're about to watch my story of love and loneliness. Can you tell me more about who I am and what I've learnt from these words?', he was saying that as to what, or where, his life was going to be.
The other day, it struck me how he came across as, 'A nice old man, but a man who was never quite the gentleman. Can you give me some examples?'
Then after he'd read my story, he began to think that maybe he should spend a few days doing the TV pilot. How he could do something that he always dreamed of, like his own 'A Short Tour of the Universe' (a show about a group of people who explore the universe) and get the audience to do what he thought would be important. For me, it was the first time he ever thought about making a show about that
