The county then hired Hazelwood's then-governor Mike Foust to represent them, which helped lead to a court motion to dismiss the lawsuit.
The company denied all claims in the suit, and in early May it was ordered to pay to Hazelwood $1.1 million in penalties.
After the city settled the matter, officials sought attorney's fees to help pay the costs, and Hazelwood has refused to comment.
This case will have ripple effects throughout the state, most famously as the case against the local school district over its use of paid sick days led to a special state court ruling that has been highly unusual.
