I was sitting in my living room with my husband and daughter, watching TV. I knew it was time to go to bed, but I couldn't help but feel the familiar twinge in my stomach as I thought about the nightmares that always seemed to follow me. I looked at my husband and daughter and knew they were too young to understand what was happening. It would be a while before they could see it for themselves. So, instead of waking them up and explaining to them that I was going to bed, I decided to wait.
That night, I had the worst dream of my life. It started out as a normal dream, where I was standing outside a building with a group of friends. It was supposed to be a surprise birthday party, but as we got closer to the building, it was clear that there were people in the windows. As we walked closer, I could see their terrified faces.
I woke up gasping for breath. I felt like I couldn't get enough air. I couldn't breathe. I felt like I was suffocating.
