The first time I read the book, I had a hard time getting through it because I didn't like the protagonist. The protagonist was so unlikable that it was hard to see the book through to the end. But when I gave it another shot, I fell in love with it and found that I was able to connect with the protagonist and her family. The protagonist was a young girl who was raised in a wealthy family. As a young child, she witnessed her father, who was the only person she knew, commit suicide. She is then forced to live with her mother and the only other family member she has left, her grandfather. She finds out that her mother has a secret, and when she learns that her grandfather is also in on it, she begins to lose hope for a normal life. When she learns about her grandfather's plan to kidnap her and put her up for adoption, she makes it her mission to escape from him.
