Inappropriate Mother, Daughter and Doctor Relations
Dr. Julia is a family doctor who has been seeing the Smith family for years. One day, she is called to the Smiths' home to take care of their daughter, Melissa, who is in need of a check-up. When Dr. Julia arrives, she finds Melissa's mother, Mrs. Smith, waiting in the living room. Dr. Julia is perplexed as to why Mrs. Smith is at the house when she should be at work. After Dr. Julia tells Mrs. Smith that she is the one who called her to come over, Mrs. Smith replies, "I wanted to make sure you knew that I'm in charge." Dr. Julia takes this as a warning and begins to worry about what this means for her daughter.
Dr. Julia walks into the living room and greets Mrs. Smith with a firm handshake and asks her how she is doing. Mrs. Smith gives Dr. Julia a condescending look and replies, "I'm doing just fine." Mrs. Smith goes on to say that her daughter, Melissa, has been feeling ill and that she would like Dr. Julia to take a look at her. Dr. Julia excuses herself to go to the bathroom and hears Mrs. Smith call out, "I'll be in my office if you need me."
When Dr. Julia enters the bathroom, she finds her daughter standing in front of the mirror wearing a bikini top and holding a pair of pantyhose in her hand. Dr. Julia can't help but notice that her daughter is much more developed than she should be for her age and she starts to worry about what might have happened in the living room with Mrs. Smith while she was gone.
Mrs. Smith then walks into the bathroom and tells Dr. Julia that she needs to leave because it's time for her daughter's lunch break from school. Dr. Julia begins to panic and tries to explain that she needs to examine her daughter, but Mrs. Smith interrupts her and says, "I know what you're trying to do and I'm not going to let you." Mrs. Smith goes on to say that Dr. Julia needs to leave before she tells her husband, Mr. Smith, what she was doing in the bathroom with their daughter.
Dr. Julia tries to make an excuse to stay but Mrs. Smith pushes her out of the bathroom and locks the door behind her before she can finish her sentence. As Dr. Julia is walking back to her car, she thinks about how she could have handled the situation differently and starts to worry about what will happen next time she sees Melissa's mother, Mrs. Smith, in the office.
