Riley Reid Pov
A cold beer was just what I needed. I thought. A nice cold beer after a long day of trying to get back on my feet. I took a long swig and relaxed into the back of my couch. I was trying to take my mind off of things, but it was hard when you can't get a job.
I turned on the TV and caught the tail end of a show about how a guy was looking for love on a reality show. I smiled. If only I could find love like that, my life would be perfect.
I continued to watch the show, but then suddenly, I heard someone knocking on my door. "Hey! You up?" The voice from the door asked.
"I'm up!" I yelled back.
"Well, I've got dinner!" My mom yelled back through the door.
I quickly got up and let her in. "Mom! What are you doing here?"
"I'm sorry, sweetie," she said, taking off her coat and sitting down on the couch next to me. "But your dad is at work, and he wanted me to bring dinner over."
"It's fine," I said, taking off my coat and sitting down next to her. "You're not staying long, are you?"
"No," she said with a smile. "I just wanted to come by and check on you."
I smiled back. "It's fine."
My mom picked up the remote and turned off the TV before turning her attention back to me. "You know, if you want to talk about it," she started, taking a sip of her beer. "I'm here for you."
I sighed and shook my head. "No, it's fine," I said, turning back to the TV. "It's just been a really hard day."
My mom nodded and turned back to the TV as well. We sat in silence for a few minutes before she spoke up again. "So, how did it go today?"
"It went well," I said, my voice cracking as tears threatened to spill over. "I had an interview with a local magazine."
"Oh," my mom said with a smile. "That's great!"
